WIPpet Wednesday

Hello Everyone,

It is WIPpet Wednesday. Many thanks to Emily Witt, who initiated this wonderful WIPpet gathering.  I am now in my newly renovated office, and it is a dream.

           So, here goes for today:

  • What have I read?

Passion & Struggle by John fioravanti. Book review coming soon on this book. I loved it.

What am I reading?

I am still reading PEAK: Secrets From The New Science Of Expertise by Anders Ericsson and Robert Pool, How To Become A Writer by Barbara Baig, and I Was Right On Time, My Journey from the Negro Leagues to the Majors, Buck O’Neil with Steve Wulf and David Conrad.

  • What do I plan to read next?

The Violin Man’s Legacy by Seumas Gallacher and Flash 40 Life’s Moments by Janelle Jalbert, The Last Coach by Allen Barra, and My Personal Best by John Wooden with Steve Jamison.

My snippet is composed of thirty seven paragraphs. Math: 17+20 = 37, which is the day of the month plus twenty the twenty in the year.

Summary: Phoebe, Granny, and Angie are having a small meeting before, Phoebe has a family meeting. She tells Granny and Angie that Daniel is the Quads’ father. Daniel has made a suggestion and Phoebe is now about to tell them what he suggested.

                                             ****

“He suggested that he and I sign an agreement to have co-custody of the Quads.”

“Phoebe, this is not a company we’re talking about. It’s the Quads.”

“I know, Granny, but I want you and Angie to listen to me first before you jump to conclusion.”

“So, how is this co-custody supposed to work, Phoebe?”

“We would both have equal say over the boys, and the boys would divide their time between his house and ours. He’s also willing to put that in writing.”

“I don’t trust that Boor,” Angie burst out. “He’s been so unfair to you.”

“Angie, I know that, but it doesn’t help me if I go stubborn.”

“Are you really considering his proposal?” Granny shouted.

“Listen, you two, I don’t have any other option. If I fight him for the Quads, I’ll lose, and I don’t want that. Think of what it will do to the Quads. Maybe now they’ll be on my side, but do you think they will see it that way when it time for them to do things with a father that I’ve robbed them of.”

“No,” said Angie, sadly. “I was going to tell you tonight that yesterday evening, Quad 1 was trying to figure out a way to find the man who gave up his sperm to his dead mother?”

“He what?”

“Yep, he thinks that he can make things better for you by making him pay child support.”

“Angie, how does he know all this?”

“Well, for one from some of those books that he’s been buying with his allowance and two, from the kids at the school he’s attending.”

“I should have known better than to put him in that school before he was seven- years-old. But he was bored at home. What do you do with a child genius?”

“Well, at least he doesn’t have to search anymore,” Granny said and burst out laughing.

“That’s not funny, Granny.”

“I couldn’t help it. Have you ever thought that this might be the best thing that’s ever happened to you? Now you can give Mr. Boor a taste of his own medicine.”

“How’s that?”

“He’s going to have to figure out how to get the boys to accept him,” Granny said.

“I haven’t told you all of it yet.”

“What else is there to tell?” Granny asked.

“He wants us to pave the way for him.”

“And I know you said No,” Granny said.

“No, I didn’t say No, Granny. I was thinking about the Quads. How do you think they will feel being left alone with him?” Phoebe said and turned to look at Angie. “Angie, have you forgotten how you felt when your parents’ families refused to give you a home after your mother and father died? Devastated, you didn’t want to live. So think about those four boys. It’s not just about us. It’s about four boys that love us dearly,” Phoebe said almost in tears.

“You’re right Phoebe,” Angie murmured. “If it had not been for you, I’d be lying six feet under. So what do we have to do?”

“We’ll have a family meeting after dinner, but I need you two on my side to pull this through, cause I don’t want any of the children to get the feeling that we’re about to be split up. I told Daniel, I need a week to get everyone mentally prepared. He’ll come to dinner when I say it’s okay. I also demanded he comes alone, and I asked him to get acquainted with the Quads first before he starts taking them around his girlfriend.”

“What girlfriend?” Angie and Granny asked at the same time.

“His girlfriend is Tammy Taylor.”

“You mean the Bitch that was telling you to get the hell out of the company when I visited you two months ago?” Granny asked.

“Yeah,” Phoebe said.

“Oh my, now I know a snake when I see one and that woman’s a snake. I wouldn’t trust her if she were standing right before me.”

“At first, she was a bitch, now you’re calling her a snake, but I understand. I don’t trust her either. According to the grapevine, they’re not far from the altar.”

“Did he tell you that?”

“No, but it’s in the grapevine.”

“So, the bottom line is that we have to learn how to be nice to Daniel Cochran,” Granny said.

“That’s it, Ladies, and I hope I’ve made the right decision for all concerned.”

                                                                        ***

That’s all folks.

Until next Wednesday,

Shalom aleichem,
